Given: You drive from Albuquerque, NM, to Rock Springs, WY, at an average speed of 55 miles per hour. Your route is along Interstate 25 to Cheyenne, WY, then Interstate 80 to Rock Springs.
What would be your total driving time (to the nearest half hour)?
Task A: Use an atlas or road map to solve the problem.
Task B: Write a brief description of the problem-solving process including steps, calculations, and tools used. Use actual road distances in miles.
Task C: Write a problem using the following elements.
* Travel by air from Memphis, TN, to Las Vegas, NV, with stops in Oklahoma City, OK, and El Paso, TX, en route.
* Students have a map of the United States that shows cities and a distance scale in kilometers.
* Require use of straight-line distance in kilometers for each leg of the trip.
* Average aircraft groundspeed is 380 km/hour from Memphis to Oklahoma City and 310 km/hour from Oklahoma City to Las Vegas.
Task D: Write a brief description of the process you used to construct the problem.
Task E: Write the steps you expect students to follow to solve the problem.
Task F: Write a scoring key with directions for its use and application.HELP MATH question please best anwser 10 points?!?!?
Task A:
1. Get out a map and measure the miles from Albuquerque, NM, to Rock Springs, WY. First, measure the distance along Interstate 25 to Cheyenne, WY, then measure the distance on Interstate 80 to Rock Springs.
2. Take that number and divide it by 55. The miles/miles labels crosses out:
(x miles) * (1 hour/55miles)
Task B:
1. Write down how you measured the distance from Albuquerque, NM, to Rock Springs, WY. Then write how you took that answer and used the average speed (55 miles/hour) to find the time.
Task C:
1. Measure the distance Memphis, TN, to Las Vegas, NV, with stops in Oklahoma City, OK, and El Paso, TX, en route. Make sure you do this in kilometers and not miles.
2. Take the distance you got from Memphis to Oklahoma City and divide by 380. This is basically the same step as #2 in Task A, except using 380 instead of 55.
3. See Task C #2, only use the distance from Oklahoma City to Las Vegas and 310 instead.
Task D:
1. Write down how you measured the distance from Memphis to Oklahoma City, and then from Oklahoma City to Las Vegas. Then write how you took those answers and used the average speeds to find the time.
