Okay, I have never been to LA myself (hoping to move there someday *crosses fingers*) but I hear that the weather is always nice, even in winter it doesn't get too cold.
I know alot of people say this about there own hometowns (Kind of how every city has "the worst drivers ever")
But North Carolina has, hands down and around, the WORST weather in the continental united states, yes it would suck to live up north during the winter and deal with below zero climate and 2 ft of snow, but at least you have some semblance of consistency.
If you live in Seattle, and its the winter, it was cold yesterday and it will probably be cold tomorrow, so its a safe guess that it will be cold today.
NOT in NC, over 3 days you can experience weather from all 4 seasons. It was 30* last week and today it was 75.
This time of the year you have to deal with 20* mornings and 80* afternoons.
I looked at a Map of the US, I drew a line from charlotte to the other side of the country (along the latitude lines to account for the curvature of the earth)
NC is Parallel with LA, the weather in LA is Soooo nice, why is that, why do they (on the same damn level of the planet as us) get nice weather and we get the worst.
I'm not a meteorologist so I know that their must be some kind of explanation for this. Why is weather so much nicer in LA than in Charlotte NC?
California has a cold ocean current which makes the air much more stable....Cold air near the ground and warm air aloft. Cold air cannot rise above warmer air...This is also why LA has major air pollution issues. When the air is cooled near the ground and warm air is aloft the air cannot rise and stagnant air forms near the surface.
On the East Coast the water is much warmer so it is easier to create unstable conditions...(more warm air is rising)
I know LA has great weather but id get bored real fast...I'm happy living in Ohio where we actually have seasons. If you think North Carolina has bad Weather try Living in Cleveland when its cloudy and cold 95 percent of the time from November to April..lolWhy is weather so much nicer in LA than in Charlotte NC?
Because it is closer to the equaterWhy is weather so much nicer in LA than in Charlotte NC?
The prevailing winds in the Northern Hemisphere are from west to east. Not always, but generally. The West Coast gets wind coming right off the ocean, while the East Coast gets wind coming from the rest of the US. The ocean is like a big heat sink, with a lot of 'heat inertia', so it tends to be very close to the same temperature all year 'round, regardless of weather and air temperature. So the west coast tends to have very even climate all year.
LA is on the edge of an enormous desert, covering most of the Southwestern US and northern Mexico. Conditions are very dry. So you don't get a lot of humidity in the air. So when the temperature rises it's not as unpleasant. Luckily it hardly ever rises above the mid 80s anyway. LA could never have grown as big as it is without its water supply growing also, and now it gets water from as far as several states away.
It's nice not to have to deal with snow, and being able to count on dry, sunny weather all Summer long. But I find it a little dull. When I lived in the Midwest, every so often there would be a 'perfect day' when the weather was just perfect. It was like a great event, it just made you happy to be alive. Everyone would smile all day, and people would even call in sick to work so as not to waste the perfect day. In LA you have about 250 days a year like that, and people don't really appreciate them, because tomorrow will be just the same.
"If you don't like the weather, wait a minute."
If you've ever been in central OK on day where the temperature can go from 93 Fahrenheit to below 32 in less than three hours when a cold front came through, you know this is true. That was some 30th birthday present. It usually takes a little longer in New Orleans, says the person who actually misses the wind tunnel effect along Common and Tulane Ave. walking from the street car.
Even Tucson has seasons, monsoon season. The birds know when it is spring.
