I know its a stupid question, but having playe half a life time of Rugby League %26amp; Rugby in Australia, growing up we were always the taughest, fastest, strongest students %26amp; basically did whatever we wanted to %26amp; had the best parties, as long as we passed exams etc...



Same later at Uni, Rugby Players always hooked up with the hottest women %26amp; generally were chaperoned by the Netball Girls (very popular female sport in Australia %26amp; NZ). So just like all the American teen flicks, movies etc....do Footballers get all the women, or is it simply about money or who has the fastest car, best pad to crash etc...



Wondering how well ingrained the whole American jock thing is? I also played a season of Gridiron here in Sydney, loved it, was awesome.

I'm generally disappointed with American movies but I've found that I can really enjoy Japanese/Korean horror movies.

How can i relate it to the movie American History X?In conflict theory there are a few basic conflicts. One of the basic conflicts in conflict theory is that of class. There are low and high ranks in class, and that gives a certain group more power over another group which causes conflicts. For the most part, when an individual is part of a high ranked class they usually own a lot of property. That means that if you are of a lower class, then you don't own as much property. This usually causes conflict on who owns the most property and what property one does own. In Marx's original conception, ownership of property was the most essential determinant of the class structure. On the other hand Weber thought that property ownership was only one factor determining class structure. Also, in the words of Jurgen Habermas, the conflicts of different social structures and classes provide the many motives it takes to create and preserve many patterns of culture. Another basic conflict in conflict theory is that of race and ethnicity. Much like in the class system, groups in this system are ranked by their prestige and power. This means that if a certain race or ethnicity has more education, prestige, and power then it is considered the better race or ethnicity which creates conflict. Another kind of conflict is that of gender. This type of conflict can be noticeable by the implication of a type of culture that is for men and a type of culture that is for women. Regions are another kind of conflict. This type of conflict is brought about by all of the different assumptions that people from one region have about people that are from another region. The regions could range from one country to another or one state/province to another. Lastly, there is the conflict of religion. The conflict of religion is itself quite stratified; even though there is a group of people belonging to each religion they are divided much like the social structure of classes. All of these groups seek to gain power and use it to reshape society the way they see it best. He goes around killing everyone and no one believes him because they don't think he would actually kill anybody. When he kills Paul Allen, Paul thinks that Bateman is somebody else. When he tells his lawyer he killed Paul, his lawyer thinks he's somebody else. So yes Paul is really dead, thats why the detective is looking for Paul, but just like the Lawyer saying he had dinner with Paul, he just thought it was Paul, like Paul thought Bateman was somebody else. I guess the 80's were really confusing for everybody with all the Coke going around. If you want a description of Bateman's character, just listen to him in the movie, he describes himself perfectly. All he cares about is himself and killing.What do you think about the movie american psycho?Well either it goes like this:



Bateman really did kill all those people because he is amused by it and it's just what he does. And he tries to confess but because he's in high power people don't believe someone in his position could do that.

Bateman imagined all of it(Notebook secretary finds) and calls and says he did it but people still wouldn't and don't believe it. Plus Paul Allen is still alive though he says he killed him. What do you think about the movie american psycho?
The ending of the movie confirms (at least in my opinion) that the character is a real psycho, that he's imagining all of this violence in his head, and that he's a product of the times, in an ever more violent media arena.

Yes, it's always like this because the simple fact is TEENAGERS CAN'T ACT. Almost every time they try, with very few exceptions like Ellen Page, critics get all angry and visceral and audiences fall out of the movie.



See, teenage actors are at that critical point where they're too old to have literally everything they act out appear authentically childlike, and too young to have any real acting experience. So they're trying to act, they just don't know how. That's why we need 20-year-olds in their place.Why are high schoolers in American High School Movies always ?Basically my response to this is, sex sells. The "kids" in our movies are older because they are, like you said, more muscley and developed. They are more attractive to a wider audience and therefore, have the power to make the movie more popular.

Teenagers obviously do not look like that. But after seeing these movies they feel like they should which causes all kinds of problems.
Because most of the "teens" in movies are actually at least 16 to 18+ in real life. There are very strict guidelines for how many hours a child actor can work, so it is often cheaper and easier for the studios to hire older actors that the guidelines do not apply to. Most high-schoolers look nothing like what you see in the movies, in either age nor physical attractiveness.Why are high schoolers in American High School Movies always ?Actors and Actresses usually are cast for younger rolls So a 20 year older may end up playing a 17 year old in 12th grade. Were a 17 year older can play a 14 or 15 year old freshman. At least that's what I heard. Also, there are the some high schoolers in real life that look like they should be graduating college but not every one is like that Why are high schoolers in American High School Movies always ?
It is not because we are Americans. They just use adult actors because they are more mature and reliable, the same reasons you would rather employ an adult rather than a teenager in anything else.

Ha ha good question!! Remember the movie Clueless? The girl who played Dion was like 30 at the time they filmed the movie!! The 'reasoning' is that older people are more experienced, so they would know how to play the characters and roles better because they have most likely been thru it before.
Ok the thing, most of those actors are probaly are not actaully teenagers but much older. It's hard to find teenagers with acting skills , and not to mention gettung they are busy with school I guess. And thats why its calling acting. Americans are not really like that at all, trust me!
Well, it's because it's not that easy to find 16 year olds who are really that good with acting. That's the best they can do with makeup and clothing, but it's impossible to shrink a person! :)

The movie "Footloose" (1984) starring Kevin Bacon gave us teenagers who looked and acted like teenagers. I'm sure many of the actors were older but they looked very young and the storyline rang true.
america isn't relay like that, but there are a few people who look like that. the fact is that they use 20 and 30 year old actors that just look younger because its essayer.
Producers want their audience to relate to the characters. If they don't relate to them then they will have no reason to watch their movie.

They're more talented than actual teenagers. In "Ferris Bueller's Day Off", a 29 year old played a 17 year old, and the other actors he was acting with were about18.
no its not like that at all. its just hollywood for ya. they're also not dressed like 25 year olds and dont sit and chill on the yard around school either.
I know in Mean Girls that they used adult actors. Regina and Karen I both know were way beyond high school when they made the movie.

Don't forget the original 90210. Dylan was middle-aged, yet he played a high schooler. He even had a receding hairline.

I guess it all comes down to what you mean by top. Looking for big budget, go with the usual suggestions but a lot of what you'll watch is very formulaic. Which I find greatly subtracts from intended purpose of horror... being the ability to take one out of comfortable situations and environments while not knowing exactly what to expect next.

I have to ask for paper bags when I go to the store. Everything is bagged in plastic. I have recently started shopping at a store that sells grocery bags that I now use. Even shows like `how to look good naked USA promote cosmetic surgery, the UK version did not. Even on Y/A there are so many (ignorant) questions about sex, menstrual cycle etc.

No I am not so stupid as to think that all American females fit this stereotype. Sadly I think that the movie industry and fashion industry promote this, as does the cult of celebrity worship. It's sad.

American horror movies aren't scary at all...?

The best horror movies I've seen are either Korean or Japanese. Asian horror movies has a lot to do with scary looking ghosts and involves little or no blood where as American horror movies, is only about blood, gore and cutting and stabbing people, which is just gross, not scary. Movies like Scream, Halloween, Friday the 13, Nightmare on Elm Street, weren't scary at all. I think the Grudge and the Ring were scarier. Anyone agree?

Saw - A Horror Film with twists, the 2nd and 3rd ones are also pretty good.



Gothika - Another Horror which is pretty Clever.



Leon - About a Hitman who befriends a little girl - really good

FRAILTY- this is one of my favorite movies ever. Take my advice and check this one out. It's bizarre, and creepy, and really twisted. This is what a suspense movie is supposed to be.

Depends what you are looking for. I love British humor, but serious British movies bore me to death. I like either. British comedies (like Thin Blue Line, Blackadder, My Family) are my favourite, while America is really good at making up stories. ;)

Ofcourse British...no not because of humor but first of all its real ENGLISH for me being european its so much better to understand......then actors are SO MUCH BETTER...they didnt have their faces lifted yet too much and acting with a botox-face leaves LESS emotions right.Anyway plot of film is also much better and how about the BRITISH directors,they are fabulous really.I think British movies take less time,money and violence to make and more talent,quality and emotions. But hey an american will tell ya otherwise
American for sure ! That is generalizing it a bit . South Africans do not really appreciate the slapstick approach to comedy however there is some exceptions to the rule like Mr. Bean %26amp; one foot in the grave (which I found hillarious). Action movies from Brittain are seldom something to mention. The last 007 was exelent !
In everything except comedies then I'm afraid America wins. They make great action, adventure and horror that has me waking in cold sweats mumbling, "I see dead people!!"



But in comedy, especially animated, I much prefer the British. It's a lot more sophisticated and doesn't rely on lame slapstick and 'Dissin' da hommies' as the only sources of entertainment.

Sadly though Britain doesn't produce the quantities of movies that America does.
If it's a good movie, I don't care!
Block busters American because of the quality.



The british they just look low budget.



I must say though I like the British gangster slash comedies

"Lock stock and 2 smoking barrels" is a classic.

America is where the movies come from, so do we really have a choice? If I knew any Hindu I might have said Bollywood, who knows?

1. Mostly, their actors are superb



2. Generally, they write good scripts. Movie making runs in the blood of Americans and they put their hearts and minds in their movie projects.



3. Their accent makes it easier to follow. Interestingly, we were a British colony and I studied in UK, but I still can't get used to their accent.



4. I can easily relate to their humour, British humour is too dry for me.



5. They are good in marketing their movies. So, even if one is not keen, they charm their way through targetted marketing.
American. They're straight to the point. Brittish movies bore me %26amp; I don't like the brittish slapstick humour.
American, British humour (what humour?) its too dry, and their accent is boring.

American of course! i'm british but i don't think it is even worth comparing the american film industry to britains film industry.
I prefer British movies. They are, in my opinion, not quite as exaggerated as American ones. In recent years many very good movies have come out of Britain. Take "28 Days Later" and "Shaun of the Dead" for instance.

I saw it a very long time ago, so the time frame of when the movie was made should be around 1995-2005.

Well it takes place in Italy, most likely around when the black death was beginning to spread, and its about a noble man that is in love with a prostitute I think.

And the movie ends with the court condemning all prostitutes to death for causing the Black Plague.
