What are good reasons to stay in the military?

What are some good reasons to stay in the military or to get out of the military?

What is your experience with people who have stayed in versus those who have gotten out? What are good reasons to stay in the military?I'm Retired Military, and my siblings are still serving, so the PLUSES for staying in:

1. The Pay/Benefits. This was reason enough -- when I was on Active Duty -- I knew I would serve the full career -- and made sure that I did so (because I did end up a single parent)

2. The Medical/Dental/Health Care. While I served, I did get injured, and another of my sibling was also injured. The Medical/Health Care is excellent -- and I consider myself blessed to have this care available to me. Also, with two disabled children (now adults and living independently) -- I am glad I had this benefit, because finding health/medical insurance for disabled children is impossible.

3. The opportunities to Advance, the Continuing Education, the Educational Opportunities. I did go up the ranks, took advantage of continuing education, and achieved my Graduate Degrees while on Active Duty.

4. The fact that you get an opportunity to change location and get trained/cross-trained, and re-trained. I liked the challenge of new areas to explore, new skills to learn, new opportunities to prove my skills and abilities, and this is something that I enjoyed worldwide.

For me, the opportunities outweighed some minuses -- like I did have a supervisor that was arrogant and abusive (but that occurs in civilian life -- and I knew that I could outlast this because tours were not that long), and the Separations (which were hard after I had children -- and as a single parent -- but for me, this occurred late in my career because I married late in the career, and divorced after a short marriage).

All in all, I am glad I served -- and I protect my EARNED Military Retirement Benefits -- Proud of the service, happy to have experienced so much of the world (even the bad places), and glad I got the opportunity to spread my wings well beyond the city I was born in -- to know the world and many peoples and to be able to say -- YES -- I WAS THERE and saw it, took the photo, and came back home to tell the story. What are good reasons to stay in the military?
Very tough question Torn. Let me start by telling you I've put in 8 years so far. Without knowing how long you've been in, or which branch you currently serve, I'll give you some points just to think about.

1. Pay - Ok, it's not much...but it's steady. It takes quite a bit to get fired. ;-)

2. Medical/Dental - Take a look in the "real world" one time, ask some friends out there. The costs are amazingly high. Granted, our medical may not be the greatest...but for free, well...

3. College - Tuition Assistance and GI Bill. If you haven't gone to college to get your degree, I'd recommend doing so before seriously considering separation. Decent jobs today are harder and harder to come by without that nifty little paper to tell people how smart you are. Experience in your field doesn't fly as far as it used to.

I do a lot of Career Counseling in my job, however, I never tell a person whether to stay or go. What I do advise though, is that you look at all your options, make sure you are truly set to leave the service, then make your decision. Too many people leave without planning, and fall on their faces. I've a few friends in the recruiting posts that all tell me their biggest numbers come from returnee's who had no idea what it was like in the so called "real world". Good luck, whatever you decide! What are good reasons to stay in the military?i retired from the navy and i'll tell you straight. reasons for staying you do not get laid off in the mil;itary. you got good medical care, you got a regular payday and if you live on base you get good food. i know they mess it up sometimes buts it started out good.i always had good working conditions, guess it depends on which branch you're in. you got medical coverage when you retire and this is very important and you get a good retirment. you have an opurtinuty to save money and you can get a good education while in the military. they have lots of good things if you will take advantage of them. now the bad things about it.if you get a bad boss you stuck with him. you're in grave danger during time of war. and you are required to be seperated from your family for long periods of time. i'm happy i retired but i would not want to do it again now%26gt; if you plan to work after you retire do not do 30 years because you will be too old to get a job that will pay you anything. i went to school and became a tool and die maker because i retired after 22 years.
depends if you over 10 years i would stay in just stick it out for your retirement pay.

Under 10 years you can find a job that pays you more then the army pays(it depends of course on your MOS).What are good reasons to stay in the military? The uniform is a Chick Magnet!!What are good reasons to stay in the military?
The good reason's are: three squares a day, free uniforms, hazard pay in the war zone, free medical, shipping over bonuses, free transportation to foreign lands, free garbage pick up, free utilities, and a paycheck on top of all that.

I've known many lifers, and for the most part they are happy they stayed in. Those first twenty years can go mighty fast, but when you're done with that you still have lots of time to build an after service career. By the time you're ready to retire, you will have your service pension, social security, and possibly a civilian pension plan. This combination would make for a real comfortable retirement.

If you are able to stay in for thirty years, the pot is even sweeter. Some folks do fully retire after thirty, while others go on to a civilian career and soon qualify for social security. This too, is a good way to plan for a comfortable retirement.
1. Love of your country.

2. Pay/Benefits.

3. Job security.

Most people we know who have gotten out have regretted the decison. What are good reasons to stay in the military?
if you wanna be a loser stay in us mil.........otherwise get out or join any other country military
I told myself every enlistment that I was gonna get out, two combat tours 3 overseas tours and numerous stateside duties later, (21 years) I retired. And the reasons for staying far outway most choices unless you have education goals you would like to meet. Or a job lined up with a fortune 500 company with a six figure salary. I loved every minute of my service, wouldn't change a thing, It had its ups and downs but now that I retired, I'd do it all again if i woke up and found myself 19 again tomorrow.
Can't think of any.

  • How does college through the military work?

Do you have to go to the military first and then after to college, or can you go to college first? How does college through the military work?Depends on which program you are using. With ROTC, there are 2, 3 and 4-year scholarships available to help pay the costs of a college education. Afterward, you are eligible to receive a commission to serve as an Officer for so many years of service.

It is more common for people to enlist, serve out there enlistment, and then use the education benefits earned to pay for college. Also, many are able to take one or two college courses toward their degree while serving out their enlisted service obligation (4 years active, 4 years reserve is the standard commitment).

Or you could go Reserves, though the education benefits aren't quite as comprehensive as what you would have earned through active duty. How does college through the military work? The NG has a college first program you can look into.

You can use your TA while you serve but can't use your Gi Bill right away.

You can always go to college first and come in has an officer and have the military pay off some of your loans.

Many options to consider do some research. How does college through the military work?you can go while you are serving. but you hafta have an MOS that will be able to give you the time off that you need for school. which is rare. otherwise you can use your GI Bill when you get out of the military. How does college through the military work?
This is asked about a dozen times a day. It has been asked at least three times since this morning already.

Why don't you search for a question before asking one?

What is more important for a country their military or economy?

In my opinion military. A nation could have a ton of riches but if they don't have a military another nation can just come in and take it all. What is more important for a country their military or economy? You could probably make it by with either as long as you played your cards right. For instance, there have been societies who have had a weak military but have a strong economic structure and societies that started with very little more than a strong military and carved out a place for themselves.

Generally, it's hard to have an operating military without the economy and vice a versa.

It seems to me that a nation that is purely military-based would used that military to build a stronger economy (This was one of the goals the Nazi's used as propaganda in WW2)

Societies that are purely military based usually have to build up a strong economy at some point in time, lest they run out of ways to fund their assaults. Eventually they'd have to have something to pay the costs of war with or they'd run themselves into the ground.

Societies with weaker armed forces survive by not stepping on the toes of the bigger guys and trading with everyone (Historically: the Dutch, Swiss and Italian States)

Usually however, these nations don't make the decisions on a global scale and the second they get in the way of a stronger power the only hope they have is for their allies to help them out or else they have to give up whatever economic dominion they own.

Generally, the goal is to use your strengths to build up your weaknesses and become the "jack of all trades." That's generally how most world powers attain that status.

To sum things up: It's hard to support a strong military without a strong economy. But it's hard to have a strong economy when you're constantly at war (using up the military).

I think in that sense, having something to offer economically may be more important - so long as you have friends in high places (and there have been cases throughout history of a strong economic power and a strong military power working together to build up one-another.)What is more important for a country their military or economy?
I'd say economy. If the people are starving in the streets, what is there to defend?

Besides, armies don't pay for themselves. What is more important for a country their military or economy? The military depends on the economy.
One supports the other. Without a military another country can take you over. Without an economy there isn't much for a military to fight for. What is more important for a country their military or economy?Economy.

With out a resourceful economy we couldn't have a strong national defense. What is more important for a country their military or economy?
You can not have an effective military with no economy behind it. We could not afford the guns, the personnel, the machines, the electronics, the food, the clothing, the boots, the training, the medicine, and more.
Without an economy you cannot have a military. What is more important for a country their military or economy?
Economy. The Military, and every other service that is monopolized with coerced payments, are unimportant.

If something is necessary, people will pay for it voluntarily.
They go hand in hand. A strong economy and weak military makes you a target for outside aggression, a strong military and no economy puts a huge burden on the finances and makes you an impoverished nation.
The United States spends more on the military than any other country in the world. Without an economy how do you plan on paying that?

Bush's military budget was 495 BILLION for 2008.

Two bombers crashed last year one was $1.4 BILLION the other was 283 MILLION. I don't think bake sales and tax breaks will generate that kind of cash.

But what do I know? I'm just a finance guy.

On the liberal front how many checkups could $1.683 BILLION get? Currently the scrap value of metal is about 20 cents a pound. Out of curiosity what do those bombers weigh?

What kind of dogs are taken into the military for duty?

My father said a military man took my doberman in and was planning to train him to take to iraq.

For some reason I smell bullshit to high heaven. What I think my father really did was put my dobie down.

So to confirm this, does the military accept dogs like dobermans? Or is it only german shepards? What kind of dogs are taken into the military for duty?Dogs aren't taken in to train from random sources. The dogs are purchased from select breeders who specifically breed for this type of work. The early (as in WWII) war dog programs took in privately owned dogs to train but those times are long past. The most common breed is Mals along with GSD, but other breeds are used depending on the work. While Dobermans were used heavily in the past (look at some of the books and other documentation on the early war dog programs) they are not typically used as sadly most are now too weak nerved or too low drive for this type of work and those that are suitable are going to cost more than the military is going to pay.

So to answer what I'm guessing your basic question is no your father did not take your dog it for training. What he really did with him only he knows. What kind of dogs are taken into the military for duty?Military Working Dogs are trained from puppies to be either Bomb sniffing or Drug sniffing dogs. Primarily they will be German Shepherds, Belgian Malinois, and the like. Although certain other breeds like labs and beagles have been used in small numbers. Never once heard of the US military using Dobermans ever. Also we breed our own, we don't go buy them from private owners. What kind of dogs are taken into the military for duty?My husband works with all labs.

What is the maximum sustainable military to civilian ratio?

I'm wondering what the largest sustainable military to civilian ratio is. What factors does it depend on? Thanks. What is the maximum sustainable military to civilian ratio?1-2% on active duty is about the maximum, more if you have poorly trained and equipped troops. Less you you have very highly trained and equipped troops like the US.

What is it like to serve in the military, and after you serve?

But all in all, I think it's worth it. If you're planning on going into the law enforcement field, then the military is a great way to prepare for that. I want to be a federal agent, and while I'm not joining the military, I know a lot of people who do the same thing. Good luck! What is it like to serve in the military, and after you serve?military is tough it deffinatly strains ur body to be very uncomfortable theres alot of stress going through boot camp cause no matter what u do ur never loud or good enough but once u through it ull wanna go back through it it all depends on how long u stay in really if ur only in there for a couple years it dosent really affect ur life and in it u its like a normal life u go to work everyday get 3 meals have some time to urself the biggest part is the 20 year retirement other than that nothing

Is it sexist to force men into mandatory military service?

In many countries around the world, men are forced into mandatory military service when they turn 18 while women are exempt and do not have to do anything. Not to mention in America males are made to register for military conscription if they ever bring it back or they lose certain privileges that women get for free. This seem very sexist against men. What do you think? Is it sexist to force men into mandatory military service? This is very sexist. I just learned about 2 books you should look into:

    The war against boys

Save the Males: Why Men Matter Why Women Should CareIs it sexist to force men into mandatory military service?
    Well, duh!!!

Aldous: I didn't know it required physical strength to fire a gun. Don't you say women are less violent. That's ridiculous and sexist. Women can be violent too. Not all are sweet little angels incapable of murder.

Is it sexist to force men into mandatory military service?Well it really depends on the rights women have in those countries. I'm guessing, but definitely not sure, that in countries that force men into service but not women, the women have what Feminists call less rights, and that is why. In a more traditional society that values the differences in men and women, each has a different set of duties and responsibilities; men have more rights and more responsibilities while women are protected, have less rights, and less responsibilities.

In the US, that situation is very sexist, and will be until women are forced to be responsible to a degree that their overly-expanded "rights" dictate.
The purpose of the draft is to quickly raise an infantry fighting force. In many countries women are not allowed in front line fighting units so they are exempt from having to register. Since women serve in all branches of the military now and hold many positions or command I think they should be made to also sign up because they can do others jobs related to an war effort.

You don't see women's rights groups protesting about this inequity but if it were "against" women you'd sure see them!Is it sexist to force men into mandatory military service? You see society is behaving like a dysfunctional family at the moment. Men have always fought wars that just as natural as women having children, it's why nature made us bigger and stronger.

The thing is as feminism has poisoned the the concept we once knew as 'common sense' and is outrageously claiming men are somehow at an advantage in modern society so men are quite within their rights to claim it is sexist.

The trouble though in reality women aren't made to do that.

    @Marcus

I agree entirely and armies throughout history have had women serving at some capacity.

A modern army is a different beast though and we are much better spending military budgets on combat effectiveness that give our soldiers the best possible advantage. Wasting money on training females for combat roles compromises combat effectiveness ( unfortunately ) I don't care if a women get killed in combat ( anymore ) But she will more than likely be a handicap to the others and it is men's safety I would have an issue with. By all means women can do very good jobs in other areas but leave PC thinking ( degenerate thinking ) out of life and death situations. Is it sexist to force men into mandatory military service?
"Men have always fought wars that just as natural as women having children, it's why nature made us bigger and stronger."

But the reason they force men into military is to make them do national service, in Israel they make women serve their country by doing some sort of service. There is no reason why only men should have to do national service. Also Selective Service registration should be abolished.
women don't have the same fighting capabilities as men. not being misogynistic or sexist but it's true. women are generally less strong and less capable to handle violence. Is it sexist to force men into mandatory military service?
Yes, I agree. It is sexist. I am a female and would not want to go, but one cannot deny that it is sexist.
    I think it totally is.

The military is not a very certain path to this career.

It would be better to do a double major in Japanese and international relations and go on to earn a master's degree in the latter subject. Try to spend a college year in Japan. This is an extremely competitive field with many more applicants than available jobs.

What are the new age limits for each branch of the military? Aren't they allowing older people now?

I specifically would like to know the age range for professionals who would like to switch from the public sector to the military sector, specifically in law. I have always had the feeling I would like to serve in the JAG Corps maybe in the Navy, Army or Marines. However, I am approaching 40 and I don't know if I am too old to join the military as a professional. If anyone could help with the answer to this question for the 4 military branches I would appreciate it. Thanks. What are the new age limits for each branch of the military? Aren't they allowing older people now?I think for professionals the age has always been a little higher and is sometimes waived.

If you go in as JAG, you wouldn't enlist, you would be commissioned instead. Commissioning programs are slightly different than enlistment programs.

My best advice is ask an Officer Recruiter for JAG and see if you meet all age, education, and physical requirements. Each branch will have different requirements and if one branch turns you down, try another.

You need to act soon though, because I think 40 is pushing it, however many of the age requirements have changed recently.

I put a couple of links below for both Army and Navy. It can give you a general idea. Again some of the info may be dated so you will have to ask a recruiter for the most current and up-to-date information. New instructions and memos are released all the time and may not be available on the net.

  • Would leaving military matters to the military be a good way to handle things?

Our government has proven time and time again that when they try to meddle in military affairs our troops just end up dead. So I say when shiit goes down leave it up to the professionals who actually know what they are doing. Rather than some dumb @ss in an aircondioned room thousands of miles away that does not know didly about tactics or warfare.

What do you guys think?Would leaving military matters to the military be a good way to handle things? Not to be crass or harsh, but any time the military is employed, our troops are going to die. We're not talking about slinging burgers or jockeying a cash register--these are high-risk jobs in many cases. Even when everything goes right, the good guys get hurt. All of us understand that when we raise that right hand and swear the oath.

Now, on the surface, your argument would seem to be a good idea. Leave the military matters to the military experts, right? However, the world is more complex than you make it out to be. As overquoted as it is, Carl von Clausewitz's assertion that "War is a continuation of politics by other means," is absolutely correct. A purely military (and acceptable) solution to any conflict is a mythical creature. As nice as it would be to wade into a war and just slaughter everyone who stands against us, you still have to work with allies, line up support from non-allied nations, plan for re-establishing a gov't once you've destroyed the one you're fighting, etc. Sound vaguely familiar?

There are people who've done their doctoral theses on these arguments. You could seriously go all day talking back and forth on it.

Bottom line, as much as I don't like the idea of some civilian giving the orders that could mean my life or death, I accept that it's the right thing to do, both constitutionally and realistically.Would leaving military matters to the military be a good way to handle things?
yes it should be left to the militaryWould leaving military matters to the military be a good way to handle things?yes sir, let the military do what it wants.

Yes, every time politicians get involved in a war it takes for ever and we usually lose.

Decisions are made from the top end but realize there are army commanders, generals, etc that come up with the concepts and how they want to proceed with the military action. Those generals and commanders always have tenure in the military meaning 10-20 years, and would fall under your "professional" category.Would leaving military matters to the military be a good way to handle things?
Clausewitz wrote “War is nothing more than the continuation of politics by other means.”

While the military should handle the actual prosecution of war, I think that it should ultimately be answerable to civilian authority.
So true, but only a dream. If the politics and reporters were kept at a distance this could easily be over in 6 months. Instead of 6 years. or more.
The military should be handling military affairs. However, I agree with Malclave that the decision to act or not to act should remain in civilian hands. This provides a certain level of checks and balances and ensures we don't have these military coups so often seen in third world nations.
yes it should be left to the military

While it may be true that neither one of you are currently married, the military might take actions against the military member that might not be consistant with civil law: The military can do MANY things that civilian law can't.

18 FOR THE US ARMED FORCES
I could be wrong (usually am) but I think the "age of consent for military personnel" applies to the soldier or sailor or marine, not to the one they're shacking up with. Local law defines age of consent for the other person, I think. Anyway, "age of consent" applies to sex, marriage, contracts, etc., not to simple dating. It's not illegal just to hold hands with a 16 year old, except in Islamic countries. Where is this girl again?
State law would get him if you have sex and this would get him in big trouble with the military.

He could be tried and listed as a sexual predator and kicked out of the military if not court martialed.

It is currently the site of demolition and remediation projects being conducted in preparation for property transfer. • What is the difference in military pay from no dependents to 3?

I plan on joining the military and have been doing a lot of research on it. I am married with two children. I am told the pay charts that i look at are for no dependents and was wondering what the difference in pay is for having three dependents. What is the difference in military pay from no dependents to 3?well whoever told you there are seperate paycharts for those with and without dependents lied to you. the only real difference would be that with dependents you would be autorized BAH (google the BAH calculator). BAH is set for your duty location zip code and is menat to offset the price of off post housing. you will also be authorized BAS which is meant to offset the price of food or substance. there are other authorizations you can qualify for to. any authorizations your qualified for other than base pay is NOT taxed.

you can find all this information out by simply googling military pay.

if you have further more specific questions email me.What is the difference in military pay from no dependents to 3?
    in base pay? none whatsoever.

the ONLY thing that changes would be BAH.. you would get the With Dependent rate as opposed to the Single rate and would qualify for BAH even as an E1-E4. Typically..single Servicemembers cannot get BAH until they reach the paygrade of E4 or E5What is the difference in military pay from no dependents to 3?The pay charts you looking at are Basic Pay. Because you have dependents you would rate other non taxable allowances. However, If your outside Conus(continental united states) it depends on where you live and the different circumstances on the orders under which you serve. If you are in Conus there is a difference between no dependents and having dependents, but the # is irrelevent. This rate varies based upon your individual rank. And agian where you are stationed.
The only difference is in the BAH. There is single rate BAH, and dependant rate BAH. You would fall under dependant rate. This should tell you every thing you need to know about pay. http://www.militarytimes.com/money/pay_c鈥?/a>What is the difference in military pay from no dependents to 3?your base pay will stay the same depending on rank and time in service (and a few other things) the only difference in pay with dependants is Basic allowance for housing. it is higher for those with dependants but it does not increase with the number of dependants, only rank. if u have one dependant or four you still get paid the same BAH with dependants for your rank. What is the difference in military pay from no dependents to 3?
No difference in base pay, you will get a little more bah than a single soldier you can go on google and find pay charts and bah charts. My recruiter told me the same bull sh!t. My advice is ask him for everything in writing if it is not in writing it's most likely a bull sh!t lie to get you to join.

If you have a wife and kids don't join the army, if you need the army to support your family then I say go for it.

I joined when my daughter was 4 and she had a hard time dealing with me being gone, I am still dealing with issues with her and I have been home for 2 years. You really need to think about the impact that will have on your family.

Actually, there are 2 different pays that are different for married vs single. BAH has been discussed. Also, COLA for overseas types increases with the more dependents you have. What is the difference in military pay from no dependents to 3?
Dependents do not affect basic pay (salary), dependents do affect Basic Allowance for Housing, but it doesn't matter how many dependents you have, the only difference in BAH is whether you have any dependents or not.

    "Basic Pay" Chart: http://www.defenselink.mil/militarypay/p鈥?/a>

BAH Calculator (based on pay rate, dependents and duty station zipe code): http://perdiem.hqda.pentagon.mil/perdiem鈥?/a>
yeah base housing allowance, depends on ur local area stationed. anywhere from 300 to 1900. one kid or 67 kids, they dont pay extra
i dont think you can join since you have more then 2 dependants. better double check that. i know the coast gaurd wont let you.
There is a difference in the BAH only between with and without dependents.

The base pay is the same.

the BAH is the Housing allowance and depends on your rank and the area of the country or world you are stationed.

There is no difference in the rate with 1 dependant or more than 1 dependent though.

if you do a search for military pay rates and check the BAH link it should list the rates with %26amp; without.

Good luck to youHow can supporting a strong military work with a smaller federal government?
I suspect that lost in all of the BS-ing is the reality of the situation. 'Government' should neither be 'big' or 'small'. Government needs to be of an appropriate size to accomplish all of the missions that are necessary in a 21st century, first world, very complex industrial country. We certainly can argue about what that is, but we always have to give a lot of thought to the results of eliminating or adding responsibilities. This isn't 'opinion' or ideology...we live in a world ruled by science and reason...ignoring science and reason leads to bad outcomes. Incorporation of science and reason leads to the greatest good for the greatest number. As far as our military is concerned it's currently well set up to re fight WW2, but it isn't the military we need and worst, at 800 billion borrowed dollars a year it's way too expensive to maintain. We're a sea and air power....we're not a land power. Maintaining dozens of overseas bases and fighting two wars is only adding expense to expense and it's not making this country any safer. To the extent we can eliminate this bloated military we can make the government 'smaller'. The old USSR went belly up trying to maintain a military machine that was far too big for the economy that supported it....there's no reason for us to go down that same road. None! How can supporting a strong military work with a smaller federal government? We had a strong military well before we had things like the department of energy, department of education and the department of health/human services.....

What strategy did the American military adopt from the French and Indian War?

The French and Indian War, a worl war that was fought primarily ont he soil of American colonies, broght about the development of American military strategy known as WHAT? This would be later utilized int eh American Revolutionary War.What strategy did the American military adopt from the French and Indian War?Hit and run. Later, this would be called 'guerrilla' (little war) tactics. Sun Tzu wrote about it loooong before Indians and Americans used it!What strategy did the American military adopt from the French and Indian War?Well technically, the French and Indian War was part of the larger-scale Seven Years War between Britain and France and involving their colonies in North American as well as a number of Native American tribes. So it was not an ‘American’ war per se. That being said, I think the defining tactic that the American colonists introduced was the use of militia as a major component of their fighting force. Colonists living on the frontier fought alongside regular British Army units against the French. George Washington was an American Colonial commissioned in the British Army during this war. The use of irregular tactics was not unique, but the use of a “citizen army” of part-time volunteers, which would later enter American historical lore as “Minutemen” during the Revolution was.

How can military personnel afford to have an apartment or house?

i was looking at the 2011 pay grade for military personnel. i realized that people that just got in 4yrs or less don't make enough to live on their own. so how do people in the military who are in active duty, but not in combat, make a living? How do NCO's and lower ranking CO's who work behind desks make enough for house, gas, food, and other expenses? How can military personnel afford to have an apartment or house?Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH)

https://www.defensetravel.dod.mil/site/b鈥?/a>How can military personnel afford to have an apartment or house?
    1. if your single, you are provided housing in the barracks and eat for free in the chow hall.

    2. if you are single and have permission to live off base. You are provided a monthly housing allowance to rent an apartment and a monthly substance allowance to buy food.

    3. If you are marrired, then you can either live in a house on base or get a housing allowance to rent off base and are provided a substance allowance to but food.

IE: you are paid a housing allowance from $700 to $1,500 per month, depending on where you live. and are paid $323 per month to buy food.

Thats in addition to your Base pay.

    4. Example, A E-5 Sgt living off post at Fort Campbell Ky with 4 years service makes :

Base pay - $2,448 per month

    Food - $323.00 per month

Housing - $783.00 per month is single, $864.00 per month is married.

In San Diego, the housing allowance would be $1,731 for single and $2,019 per month for mariedHow can military personnel afford to have an apartment or house? Most active duty personnel live on post, where the housing, electricity, water, and sewage are all free. If you live in the barracks as a single individual you can also eat for free at the dining facilities.

For those who CHOOSE to live off post they CHOOSE to pay out of pocket for everything. How can military personnel afford to have an apartment or house?
The pay is much better than it looks because food, health care, and living on base are all free. If you're married or senior enough, BAH pays for a rental home, and you keep what's left over. Not only that but there are other incentive pays like bonuses, sea pay, air pay, per diem, etc.How can military personnel afford to have an apartment or house?that's our base pay only.. we get a NON taxable housing allowance as well. how much we get varies by paygrade and whether or not there are dependents. it is also based on local housing market values.

for instance, my husband gets another $2500 a month in Housing allowance ON TOP of his base pay

of course if you do not qualify for a housing allowance they provide living quarters for you on base. How can military personnel afford to have an apartment or house?
What you are looking at is BASE PAY alone. You also get BAH (housing allowance) and BAS (food allowance) if authorized to reside and subsists outside of the barracks.

I get $1500.00 for BAH and about $250.00 for BAS a month on top of my base pay. And BAH and BAS isn't taxed either.

What to study in college for a good military career?

I want to go to college, maybe West Point. I apologize for repeating this question, but I feel I need more info. What could I study, or how could I go into west point hoping to spend my life in the military? What could I do in the military? What to study in college for a good military career?Hey there,

Have you checked out the Admissions site and read the Prospectus yet? It has a lot of information about what you can learn there through for military and majors.

    http://admissions.usma.edu/prospectus/wp鈥?/a>

You can study anything at West Point. There are many different classes. It is primarily an engineering school and obviously army.

Graduates from West Point are commisioned as 2nd LT's, so this is a good step for many.

There are many things you can do after graduation, like infantry, artillery, etc.

Make sure you check the requirements It is tough, Ivy League grades, good physical condition, and strong leaders.

You could also do ROTC at many colleges. You can get commisioned from this too but on a civilian college.

Why do military families sometimes have lots of kids?

I noticed this among military couples and my cousin has four boys. Her husband is in the military and is on leave a lot. I know it is not just my imagination.Maybe all that time away causes a whole lotta lovin. Why do military families sometimes have lots of kids?I was in the Navy for 5 years and the answer to this is quite simple. The military, no matter which branch, pays you more for every kid you have. If your pay went up considerably for each kid you had, you probably would have several too. Also, if you are separated from your significant other for 6 or more months... let's just say you are very happy to see them when they return. Why do military families sometimes have lots of kids?
The military injects a very potent serum into their soldiers to turn them into immensely strong killing machines. One of the side effects is super sperm. Just touching super sperm with your hand is enough to get pregnant. It can permeate the skin through osmosis, and then it's just a matter of weeks or months until it travels down to the ovaries. That's why your cousin gets inexplicably pregnant while her husband is on leave. Why do military families sometimes have lots of kids?i notice that too.each post i have been to or we have been stationed at,i see many families with a bunch of kids.i saw this one lady with 4 kids all noticeably a year apart and one on the way at the grocery store.i see families like that always,i asked my husband why is that when we first started dating and i would go on post with him to do different things.i think that the women assume that military families are rich and its guaranteed money and benefits, until you get hurt or discharged,so they just start popping them out yearly.im not saying it is all of the families, but it is 50% of the ones i know that have alot of kids.almost every lady in my classes on post are that way and thats why they say they are in night class.cant afford a university, too many kids, and daycare cost.but i think to myself, get on some bc pills, before you end up with more kids.but thats just my thought on the families with many kids.i do not want more than two children.we have one on the way,and wont have another til i graduate college and the baby is in kindergarten, then my husband has one already.that is a average size family i say.i have been asked by some wives on post how many more children are coming next?then they get made when i say kids are expensive, and one and only years down the road will be next.then they look at me and say i should have more.then i ask is that a trend in military familes having 4 plus kids?i cant say who should have how many kids, but it is not a good look for civilians to notice that about most military families and other military families to see the trend of big families on face too.this is all me being me and giving my opinion of what i have saw and have been told personally.
Well not all military families have lots of kids. My husband and I only have one. It is an issue between that couple. Why are you concerned about others? Ask your cousin. Why do military families sometimes have lots of kids?they don't it's just a misleading roll of their fat that looks like a kid, or maybe it's an outline of a kid that the fattie ate!Why do military families sometimes have lots of kids?
Maybe its becuae they tend to recruit in the lower socio-economic sections of teh community and these sections tend to breed like rabbits
Last time I checked the Duggars had no military affliation. Why do military families sometimes have lots of kids?
your question is why do they "sometimes" have lots of kids? really? Why does any family have lots of kids?
I do not believe Military families specifically have more kids than any other group of families.

Whats the difference between these military fighter jet?

Im really ignorant when it comes to Military Jets.

What is the difference between all these jets? They all look alike.

What does the F stand for in all the names?

    F-15

    F-16

    F-18 Hornet

F-22 RaptorWhats the difference between these military fighter jet? There's a lot to say about this, so I'll have to be pretty brief.

The F-15 is a large, twin engined air superiority fighter. The F-16 is a smaller, single engine, low cost fighter. Both of these are used by the U.S. Air force and other governments. The F-18 is also a smaller, low cost fighter like the F-16 (in fact it was developed from the same design competition) but is used by the Navy. The F-22 is a large, twin engined stealth fighter designed to replace the F-15. The F-15 and F-22 are meant primarily to attack other aircraft, while the F-16 and F-18 have developed an extensive ground attack capablility. You may also hear of the F-15E, which is a bombing version of the F-15. If you still have any questions, you can send me a message and I'll add whatever you want to know to this answer. You can also look at this wikipedia page. Some details may be innacurate, but it is a great place to start for a general overview:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fighter_air鈥?/a>Whats the difference between these military fighter jet?
"F" stands for "Fighter". Originally intended to mean that this design in intended primarily to shoot down other aircraft, it now means any aircraft that isn't a tanker, transport or bomber.

F15 Eagle is a twin engine air-superiority fighter, originally. The two seat version F15D was converted into the F15E "Strike Eagle" optimized for air-ground. The F15 replaced the F4, and F106 in the USAF inventory.

F16 Fighting Falcon, officially but everyone in the USAF calls it a "Viper". Single-engine aircraft, originally designed as a cheap lightweight fighter for NATO. The F16 has replaced F4's, A7s, and F104s (NATO). Primarily Air=ground it has a good air/air capability.

F-18 Hornet. Was originally the YF17 competitor to the YF16 for the lightweight fighter competition. It lost that, but in a rare display of non-partisanship the Navy wanted to replace the F14, A6, A7 in its carrier air wings. Overseas it replaced Mirage IIIs (Australia, Switzerland), Drakens/Mig21s (Finland). The current version is the Superhornet with better offensive and defensive avionics.

F-22 Raptor. Twin engined, "stealthy" (to a degree), with the ability to go 1.0Mach without afterburners-though this hasn't been fully proven yet. The intended replacement for the F15. Somewhat controversial in the USAF; as the Air Force has released members, elminated the F117, and closed bases to pay for what will be basically 2xwings worth of air/air fighters.Whats the difference between these military fighter jet?As already stated,F stands for fighter in US service.

The four aircraft listed have been developed for different purposes by various manufacturers.

1.F15 Eagle,a McDonnell Douglas design in service for over twenty years. This is considered one of the world's premier single seat air-superiority fighters.

    2.The F16,designed by Lockheed Martin is a single seat multi-role fighter,a lightweight air-combat machine.

3.F18 Hornets are a Boeing design,a single seat carrier-borne and land based fighter and strike attack 'plane.True fighter/bomber able to operate in either role.

4.The F22 Raptor has been designed to eventually replace the F15 in USAF service. This is a "Stealthy" air dominance fighter, embodying state-of the-art equipment and designed by Lockheed Martin/Boeing.Whats the difference between these military fighter jet?
The F stand for fighter. Even to the untrained eye the differences are significant.

.F-15 Is a very large twin engine single seat fighter designed to be the Air Force's front line fighter of it's day.

F-16 Is a smaller single engine and single seat fighter, very agile and lighter in weight than the F-15. It's under fuselage air intake is what sets it apart visually.

    .

F-18 Hornet is a medium sized twin engine aircraft developed for the Navy for carrier use. It's twin vertical tail surfaces are canted each to one size.

F-22 Raptor is a very modern stealthy aircraft designed to replace the F-15 as America's front line air superiority fighter. It is at least a generation ahead of any other fighter aircraft flying today.

    .

.Whats the difference between these military fighter jet?F stands for fighter. B for bomber (B17 for instance), H is helicopter, C is cargo, and so on. As to the difference between them you will have to look it up, but obviously F16 is a later plane than F15.Whats the difference between these military fighter jet?
They all look alike?? I think Ray Charles said that too.

Give another look at the pictures. They are totally different. Maybe if you said the F14 and F15 look alike, I could buy it.

As far as the differences, what the others said.
all those planes have different capabilities . the handling, weapons and such things. also engines.

I'm not sure, it takes a lot more energy to produce and just isn't worth it in my eyes. And I MEAN A LOT of energy. The Air Force is the hands down largest consumer of energy in the United States. They also lead the way in energy conservation efforts. For example at my base, our deisel vehicles all run on BioDeisel only. If you go to bases in places like Arizona, you will see many small golf cart like vehicles which are 100% electric.

How many military or prior military members are democrate?

If you are have you ever had anyone make comments that Democrates are anti-military? Personally I never did until recently and it seems like it's becoming a bigger problem especially with the media influence. Just curious to know if anyone else has encountered problems like this. How many military or prior military members are democrate?According to the Military Times (which publishes the Army Times, Air Force Times etc) 42% of the military claim to be Republicans, 41% claim to be Democrats and the rest claim to be Independents.

Currently, there really is no "fastest". Speed in and of itself is not really a design priority anymore. Agility, which is the ability to maintain instantaneous and sustained G; rapid acceleration w/out using afterburner (which consumes a lot of fuel), and an integrated firecontrol system which reduces switchology are the goals of military aircraft today.

The F22, while it does have supercruise-which isn't working out exactly as promised BTW- has a top speed of about 1.8Mach. It doesn't have variable inlet ramps on the intake, so it is incapable of anything over that.

Some of have mentioned the MiG25/31 as "fastest". Theoretically, yes; however the engines have a tendency to accelerate out of control over 1.9 Mach, so it is "combat-limited" to about 2.5 Mach, or roughly the same as an F15C
The super secret Black Bird (SR-71).

that's classified... the f-22 raptor is the fastest fighter jet in the world with dual stage afterburners that vector on demand. the sr-71 is the fastest recon plane and holds the record flight from la to new york but is used rarely these days. the russian migs are extremely fast with mach 2+ numbers along with the french mirage. the second tier speed jets would be the f-16, f-15, f-14, f-18. the slow pokes include the a-10, f-117, b-52, c-130, b-2 etc.
fastest MILITARY jet in the world is the MiG-25 Foxbat
I know the SR-71 was the fastest. But, they retired it a few years ago.

  • Where can i find information on inappropriate civilian clothes for military while at work?

I know of military women who work around a lot of men and come to work (during work hours while on duty) with sexy or revealing clothes on. I know there has to be a standard for military. If men came to work with there pants sagging I am sure that would be inappropriate as well. Is there a military standard or is it up to each squadron?Where can i find information on inappropriate civilian clothes for military while at work?Something like this is a Leader's call. Our unit has a dress code for civilian clothes day...if it's something you would wear to the club or even think about wearing to the club, you might not want to wear it to work. You also must be willing to get dirty in your clothes as well. Bottom line...it's gotta be tasteful clothing.

Believe it or not, tight and revealing clothes or even men wearing Playboy hats or shirts can be subject to complaint under EO. Why?? It's is an indirect and non-verbal form of sexual harassment.Where can i find information on inappropriate civilian clothes for military while at work?
Why are these people not in uniform? It is the military! Did you know the military actually has a regulation stipulating that females must wear bras? I actually knew someone who got chewed out by the commanding officer because she didn't have one on while in civilian clothing and off duty. Moreover she was so flat chested she almost looked like a guy.Where can i find information on inappropriate civilian clothes for military while at work? There is a standard. Which is AR 670-1 Wear and Appearance of Army Uniforms and Insignia. But that doesn't cover civilian clothing. I'm not sure why someone would be at work while in civilian clothing. But as far as wearing sexy or revealing clothing, in civilians, that really falls on the leaders around her at the time. Its really there call. The men do have the right to report sexual harassment for it, but wont, we all know why. But as long as she is not in the workplace she can wear whatever she wants.Where can i find information on inappropriate civilian clothes for military while at work?
AR 670-1 is the wear and appearance of military issued clothing fro the army. Military should be in uniform at all times while on duty unless other wise authorized. If other attire is authorized then it is subject to the units SOP and the discretion of the chain of command. If neither of those address the issue then it is an EO complaint.

Where can i find information on inappropriate civilian clothes for military while at work?there is a reg for the uniform..the only time i have ever seen a woman in anything other than a uniform while at work was when we were overseas and the clothing store did not have any maternity uniforms to fit her when they came in she was in them...but she wore appropriate clothing for her job...Where can i find information on inappropriate civilian clothes for military while at work?

However, I believe all of them do have skirts for their dress uniforms (the Army does and your command will dictate depending on the weather and other factors if the skirt will be authorized at certain functions). You also have to realize that I've been in the Army for almost 4 years and worn my dress uniform 3 times- two times in an official capacity and once for a wedding. This shouldn't be a factor in deciding which service you join as you rarely wear dress uniform and when you do it's ceremonial or celebratory and you really don't have a final say in which you wear. What branches of the military allow women to where skirts instead of pants?
I believe all the services allow a skirt for the dress uniform but I'm not sure as far as the working uniforms.

How open you are with sharing those thoughts and feelings with someone, or do you do it with very close friends and love ones only? For military guys, How normal is for you to share thoughts and feelings about military life with penpals?Depends on the person.

I had five pen pals during my last tour. Over a year of talking to one of them, another year of visiting her, we got married.

Overall, it depended on the person. Two were good at talking about things, one younger one was just curious about things and didn't not seem to be interesting in details, one was more interested in telling me about himself and his XBox.

Something I have noticed in general over several years is that people share their feeling with two people, someone they know extremely well, or somebody they do not know at all.

Cornelia Fort is said to be the first woman pilot to die in the service of our country. What military jobs would women have held in Honolulu during the Pearl Harbor attack? While I know during the war women did become pilots (though in the US they didn't become combat pilots, though they did serve as ferry pilots and in at least one instance as test pilots of a sort), I'm not aware of any female military pilot in the US prior to Pearl.

Women would join as WASPs (Women Airforce Service Pilots), WACs (Women's Army Corps), and WAVES (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service) during the war. The last two came into existence in '42 and the WASPs in '43. However, the WASPs actually had been proposed in the summer of '41 and had two predecessors which came into existence in '42 which would be combined in '43 to form the WASPs. These were the WFTD (Women's Flying Training Detachment) and the WAFS (Women's Auxiliary Ferry Squadron).
