What path in the military would be best for a career in Law Enforcement?

My goal is a career in Federal Law Enforcement (FBI, CIA, etc.)



Generally people have said that time in the Armed forces is a pretty good thing not only to prepare you, but also to have on your resume.

In general the Police Academies will tell you to stay away from Military Police. It will give you bad habits that they will have to train out of you (I am not saying that MP is bad, but the military does things different than civilian agencies). The best MOS is actually 11B (Infantry), it teaches you weapons, tactics, and leadership, and now you will get a little of that all around dealing with people and problem solving also.

However, you said Federal Law Enforcement and specifically mentioned the FBI, and CIA. Those require specific skills and most of those are found in Military Intelligence. If you want to be an agent, you will need a degree and accounting is probably the best for both of those. Actually they like people with Law degrees even better. If you only want to be an operator than MI is your best bet for any national agency.What path in the military would be best for a career in Law Enforcement?I recommend go to infantry and go ranger or special forces. Those are demanding school but the stuff you learn is priceless and law enforcement really look for it.

Don't go Military police, most law enforcement agencies don't like military police since they have to re-train you to comply with civilian laws which are a lot different from military ones.

The key point is to stay long to get you security clearance done by the military, that way the FBI don't have to do it and that will be something else in your favor.

Don't go MP, go Marines or Army. If you go Army, go Infantry and at least get your Ranger tab. Whichever you do, stay sharp, and be the best at what you do. Keep your record clean. If your looking for a job like he CIA try going with some sort of intelligence service. If you want to be in like the FBI try doing something like an investigator. Each of these jobs require different training and requirements. so it all dependes on what you want to do....
BE an MP ( military police ) and then you can also study to get into law enforcment. like CIA or FBI.. :) My husband is in the army ( MP ) and studyin to join JAG as a lawyer... so ... MP position opens up a ton of doors.What path in the military would be best for a career in Law Enforcement?
