What military ranks are there in the military and more?

I want to know the ranks that are given in the military. How they work? What jobs they get given and stuff like that. Oh, and what punishments people get gived if they don't do as they're told. What military ranks are there in the military and more?Ranks in most armed forces are divided into Commisioned Grades (Officers); Warrant Officers (the Sargeant-Major types); Non-Commisioned Officers (NCO, Sergeants and Corporals) and Privates/Airmen/Seamen at the bottom.

Historically the Officers were drawn from the aristocracy and only turned up to finance an army and lead it into "glory". The Warrant officers hold the "king's warrant" and are the professional soldiers (airmen or sailors) who formed the full-time regular army. The other NCOs were also full time and commanded smaller groups of men. The "private soldier" was only called upon at time of war (the "levee") and was trained by the NCOs.

These days all ranks are professionals and nobody buys their comission to get a plum job in the regiment of their choice. It is now possible for anyone with aptitude to progress from bottom to top - in theory anyway.

Army

Private; Lance corporal; Corporal; Sargent; Warrant Officer 2; Warrant Officer 1; Second Lieutenant; First Lieutenant; Captain; Major; Lieutenant Colonel; Colonel; Brigadier; Major General; Lieutenant General; General; Field Marshal.

Royal Navy

Ordianary Seaman; Able Seaman; Leading Seaman; Petty Officer; Chief Petty Officer; Fleet Chief; Sub-Lieutenant; Lieutenant; Lieutenant Commander; Commander; Captain; Commodore; Rear Admiral; Vice Admiral; Admiral of the Fleet.

RAF

Airman 2nd class; Airman 1st Class; Corporal; Sargeant; Flight Sargeant; Pilot Officer; Flying Officer; Flight Lieutenant; Squadron Leader; Wing Commander; Group Captain; Air Commodor; Air Vice Marshal; Air Marshal; Marshal of the Royal Air Force.

There are lots of sub-divisions within each Rank which denote the specialisation or trade of the individal serviceman.

Punishments for disobeying orders range from "extra duties" through Fines and confinement to quarters, loss of privileges, prison, Dishonourable Discharge. In times of war it may even lead to execution.

See the link below for comparitive ranks and titles for specilisations and trades.

Other countries armed forces have a similar structure but the names that they give to the ranks (or grades) vary considerably. When a serviceman visits a foriegn army or navy or air force they are often provided with rank conversion charts which also explain ranks that have no equivalent in the UK.

For example: Don't make the mistake of thinking that ranks in the United States armed forces are the same as ours. Some are, but a lot are not the same and have no equivalents. What military ranks are there in the military and more?
Depends on the branch of the millitary. There is too much information you are asking to put it all down here. Go to this website and it will give you more information on all the different branches of the millitary. http://www.militaryfactory.com/ranks/ind鈥?/a> What military ranks are there in the military and more?Your asking for a lot of information.
