Does a former military police officer make for a good cop in the civilian world?

Take for instance, he gets out of the military after serving his country in the military. Would it then be wise for him to be a police officer in the civilian world? Are former military police officers usually successful as cops in the civilian world?Does a former military police officer make for a good cop in the civilian world?I would say no because 'civilian' life is not war or anything to do with warfare. The 'skills' for interacting with communities etc are completely different to that of the military and war. I am not writing from experience just some general understanding and reality. Being a cop in the 'civilian world' is just as reactionary as being a military cop perhaps worse because at least in the military you can organise and perhaps revolt. Although history has shown police can also revolt and side with working people against the government, state and bosses. See the Spanish Revolution and Civil War. What a potential cop really has to consider or should consider is can they live with being an oppressive functionary of the government and the state, protecting private property and the bosses against the mass of working people. Will you be able to beat up protesters, striking workers and live with yourself. Military are sometimes described as workers' in uniforms but Police are slightly different and generally speaking I would argue they are more reactionary and harder to win over to the cause of working people. Even if you ignore this whole 'rhetoric' at least take a very good amount of time before you decide anything. Do not make a fast ill thought out decision. There is no need to jump straight into anything.Does a former military police officer make for a good cop in the civilian world?
Absolutely makes for a great civilian cop. Many of our current officers are former military police, former military other assignments and many are still reserve or Guard. Most AR and NG have been called for active duty at least once in the past 7 years. Our chief is Army Reserve. So, yes, a military background is excellent experience and training.Does a former military police officer make for a good cop in the civilian world?Military experience makes the transition to police work easier. Federal law allows employers to award veterans service points to those with military service, so it will give you an advantage.

As far as being successful, that is up to the individual.
I know a dozen or so officers that did just that... you can't tell them from the other guys.

Where it does give you a huge advantage is at the academy. Boot camp, all over again, with beer this time.

The basics of being a cop hold over everywhere, but the details are agency specific. That is the downfall of some... you have to do things *their* way, not the way you did them back on base.

And R is clueless.Does a former military police officer make for a good cop in the civilian world?Being in the military certainly does make it easier in the process of becoming a police officers.

I work with a couple of officers who were previously in the military, and some still are active.Does a former military police officer make for a good cop in the civilian world?
we need more military personel on the olice force around here. it would be good to have someone who actually knows how to shoot and wont be a politically correct pussy when it comes to putting a bullet in some ******
I've worked with police before, and, in my opinion, former MPs have better work ethics than most other cops. I think it's because of the military discipline.Does a former military police officer make for a good cop in the civilian world?
The ones I know sure are. One guy is an amazing cop, he once had a guy break his collar bone and didn't respond in any way but cuffing him... now that's patience. He keeps his cool like no other, he's known as "Ice" all over his state.
