What is life after military service like?

I am almost out of high school, and am planning to go to a four year college. After which, I plan to join the Marines. I do not want a military career, but I have seen and heard that it is very difficult for a veteran to adapt to civilian life after service. Some even go homeless. After the Marines, I would like a civilian career. Any advice/words of wisdom? Thank you. What is life after military service like?Im pretty happy, I did more cool stuff in my 24 yrs than most people will even dream of. Also it helped me prepare for my current job. To be honest I had a blast. Love to fly to this day. BONUS- there is a check in my bank account every month!!What is life after military service like?
Join the military first and see how you like it. Many people say they won't stay in and 20 years later they are retiring from the service. Also, going military first you will get oprtunities to complete your degree through the military. There are schools on posts and online courses that the military will pay for, unless you fail the course.

If you are set on going to college first and becomming an officer, thats good too. It all realy depends on what you want out of school, life and the military.

Yes, transitioning back to civilian life is hard. For me it's been just over 3 years and I still hate civilian life. The military was the place for me, but it's not for everyone. So choose first if you are set on school first or not then decide after you join if you want to stay in or get out after your enlistment time. What is life after military service like?its not easy for anyone, your pointed in the right direction by planning to go to college first and then serve. I would say since you will have a degree, go in as an officer and spare yourself the all the BS of being enlisted, as an officer, the pay is much better and your treated a whole lot better than an enlisted man, but don't make up your mind just yet there is a whole lot that can change between now and then. It is indeed very difficult for a veteran to adapt to civilian life, mainly becuse most jobs in the military don't have any marketable skills that transfer out here, so when you get out you don't have a whole lot of options and are stuck at the very bottom, so any civilian caeer is going to be hard to pursue, so thats something to think about, most employers now a days are looking for job experience on top of a college degree. What is life after military service like?
It's Bad. I know two great men whose lives were ruined by active service. My best friend on the planet lost her father who killed himself from his psychological problems caused by post traumatic stress disorder. There are however plenty of functional citizens who previously served. Just know that the rest of the possibilities are not the best. What is life after military service like?Try to get an MOS that you can use when you get out. THats all I can say...

Most vets are surprised when they go to jobs afterwards and see disrespect from subordinates to superiors, people being lazy, and people being useless among other things...What is life after military service like?
