The United States of America has a population of 230 million people and those people speak more than 50 different languages. These numbers are hard to ignore and have led me to investigate their impact on this country.

The country of the United States of America is populated by more than 230 million people. These people are from all parts of the world. They speak the native tongue of their country. They hear the sound of different languages spoken by their neighbors. Those neighbors are most likely English or English speaking Mexican Americans. The reason for this is that\Mexican Americans are the second largest ethnic population in the United States. They account for 17 million Spanish speakers and nine million of them speak English very well. The sheer number of Mexican American individuals also leads to the fact that they have the largest number of individuals that do not speak English at all. There is something to be said for the English languages when a country with 230 million plus people only has 1.8 million people that do not speak English at all.

The languages we hear are formed over many generations. They come from the mixture of cultures and continents. One of these languages is Creole. The language was formed in different ways as there are at least three different dialects. The two most popular to Americans are Louisianan Creole and Louisianan French. The languages both born in Louisiana from the combination and mixture of cultures and ethnic heritage are still spoken today. The major concentration of Creole speaking individuals is in the south.

The Creole dialect known as Louisianan Creole was created by slaves that were working in Louisiana. The slaves came from Africa and Haiti. The language they came to speak not only defined them, but created an ethnicity. The Louisiana French had a better way of life in that of their counter parts. They were not considered slaves as they were European. They created a Creole language that they spoke it came from a mixture of French and Louisianan Creole.

The third dialect of the Creole language is European Creole. This was also a language formed from the African immigrants and their language. The European dialect is the oldest of the three Creole dialects.

There is no doubt that languages have an effect on government and polices. There are debates and protests that occur across the country on a weekly basis. Putting aside the ethnic and cultural differences the language that we speak defines us to our listeners. The president of the United States has supported reform that makes speaking English a priority. The federal government has supported bilingual job creations. This is the act of a government that is working to include all of it constituents. The legal immigrant populations have become a voice and a vote that politicians work hard to get and maintain.

Languages and more specifically the English language has had some strong support for its domination over all who reside in this great country. The reason for this is that there is not an official language of the United States of American. The reason for this is not easily figured out. What is clear is that some people have tried to pass English only laws in their cities. One of these cities is Hazelton Pennsylvania, where in 2006 the local government passed an English only ordinance. The ordinance was not primarily aimed at foreign speaking individuals, but an attempt to flush out illegal immigrants. The ordinance was short lived and sparked debates over languages spoken in the United States from Spanish to Italian.

The impact of legal and illegal immigrants on this country in regards to language has been great. They have given this country its multi cultural look and feel. We can use the MLA as a resource to view the United States as a map of languages by area. The first data input I looked at was Spanish speaking individuals. They have a great population in the south west and south central. They are not restricted to these areas and have some population in almost every state.

The Chinese speaking individuals are the second leading language behind English and Spanish. The Chinese are well spread out. They are seen in every state; however their major population is in the southwest. There is also a significant population in Florida and the Northeast. The least population of foreign speakers is Hungarian with less than 118,000 in the United States. We use the Modern Language Association map and we see that while small in numbers they have an influence in every state in the United States. Their major influence is in the south west and Florida and the Mid Atlantic region.

The Modern Language Association provides us with a great resource of information in regards to language. The web site provides interested individuals with three great research tools. The first is a general map with tools to select individuPlease peer review this for me?
Well Done, The only thing I would add is how to remedy this problem. Like passing the two laws I would love to see. first make English language our mandatory for everyone and stop printing all government documents including all 50 states in English only. Like it use to be 50 years ago. If you live here lean the language. We would save Billions of dollars a year to boot. Please peer review this for me?
I thought that America had a population over 300 million. Even back in 93 or 94 I thought it was 270 million, so it would only be larger now, correct? What's the point of this study, what information are you trying to put out? I read it. It's not bad, very informative. But if you're doing this for college, you may want to do a little more editing, it'll make a great difference.
