Now Mexican illegal immigrants reconquering stolen lands in America?

The distillers of Sweden's Absolut vodka have withdrawn an advertisement run in Mexico that angered many U.S. citizens by idealizing an early 19th century map showing chunks of the United States as Mexican.



The billboard ad has the slogan "In an Absolut World" slapped over a pre-1848 map showing California, Arizona and other U.S. states as Mexican territory. Those states were carved out of what had been Mexican lands until that year.



Although it was not shown in the United States, U.S. media outlets picked up on the ad, and after a barrage of complaints, Absolut's maker said on Sunday the ad campaign would cease.



Defending the campaign last week, Absolut maker Vin %26amp; Spirit said the ad was created "with a Mexican sensibility" and was not meant for the U.S. market.



"In no way was this meant to offend or disparage, nor does it advocate an altering of borders, nor does it lend support to any anti-American sentiment, nor does it reflect immigration issues," a spokeswoman wrote on Absolut's Web site.



"Instead, it hearkens to a time which the population of Mexico may feel was more ideal," she wrote.



Absolut's blog cite has received more than a thousand comments since the ad campaign was launched a few weeks ago, with many calling for boycotts of the Swedish company.



"I have poured the remainder of my Absolut bottles down the sink," one blogger wrote.



A war between Mexico and the United States from 1846 to 1848 started with Mexico's refusal to recognize the U.S. annexation of Texas and ended with the occupation of Mexico City by U.S. troops.



At the end, Mexico ceded nearly half of its territory to the United States, forming the states of California, Nevada, Utah and parts of Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico and Wyoming.



Mexicans remain sensitive about the loss and the location of the border. At the same time, the United States is fortifying barriers to keep out undocumented Mexican migrants.



Some Mexicans use the term "Reconquista" (reconquest) to refer to the growing presence in California of Mexican migrants and their descendants.

As a Chinese,I have something to say. I wonder how many of you know the history about China? Do you know what is the position of Tibet in China in the history? OK, If you do not know the answers, please read with patience.



Tibet has become a part of China In Yuan dynasty during the 12 th century. it has never turned to be a nation since then. In 1949 before PLAs marched into Tibet, it is a part of republic of China. That is to say, the battles in Tibet during the next two years are just like the battles in other part of China during the civil war. If i say because Taxes was once a republic called "" so it should be a independent country, what's your feeling?



In 1950s, Dalai Lama reached an agreement with the government. In it, he himself said Tibet was a part of China. In 1950s, CPI trained a lot of spies and let they go to Tibet to organize rioters. These rioters killed people including Tibetans and destroyed many rooms. One of these organization was literally called "the troop to protect the religion" and its Chinese name was 鍗暀鍐? Later in 1959, under the beguilement given by American government, dalai Lama left Lhasa. That is the truth one Chinese can tell you.



China never trampled the human rights of Tibetans. China help them improve their living standards and never interfere their religious beliefs. We built the highest railway in the world to make the traffic there convenient.....I don't know what should we Chinese do to satisfy those greedy presses.



One truth you must be aware of is that since many western presses use the false pictures,even scenes in the movie to report the issues onTibet(you can see more on the website I offered). These nasty conducts, which have broken the rule and morality of journalism, have annoyed every Chinese. We are all asking one question: why some so-called just and objective western presses have acted so ugly on this issue. For a long time, we regard western world as a symbol of just, democrcy and freedom, and we are trying to build our country like yours. But now we are dubting our former judgement, for we discover that the Chinese presses instead of Western presses are telling more truth. We are trying to gain understanding from you on the issue of Tibet, but why some presses are making obstacles between us and the people around the world.



I'm living in China, and I once had an experience in my school with some Tibetan teachers from the local schools 3 or 4 years ago. They loved the government for it improved their living standards. I didn't find any dissatisfaction about the China's government. I got to know that their lives were peaceful and no governors were trying to force them to change or give up their beliefs. I wonder why some presses reported so different from their descriptions.Shall I, as well as you all, believe the presses which may never send a professional journalist to Tibet or our ears and those Tibetan teachers who were once standing in front of me?



I wonder how people can understand what Tibetans are thinking about. Presses told you they suffer from oppressions, and then you believe so without checking if the reports were fallacies?When Chinese presses or books told sth you always thought they were under control, why can you change your view? Presses like CNN like to tell you the Tibet history, which is absud, but why they don't tell you how Westerns including Americans kill Chinese and steal Chinese babies just about 100 years ago? Why don't they tell you how Chinese were suffering from their oppression?Why don't they tell you how Chinese finally threw them out of our land? Why don't they tell you how they stop mainland and Taiwan, the mother and her son, get together again? Why don't they tell you how western spys plotted to bomb Chinese prime minister Zhou Enlai in 1955?



The answer is: their way of just and democracy is only an excuse helping them malign other countries and peoples.

A Swedish company selling Vodka, projecting accurate historical data, and sensitive to N. American ideals....how can you possibly take something like that seriously? By any practical standards, it's a stretch beyond reason and rationality to turn it into a political rant against the U.S.



Hypocracy, no. Between the 1400's to after 1900, every major economic power was doing the same thing. The U.S. just joined the party when it was able to. It had good reasons. There were a lot of nations trying to tear the young country apart around 1800. Returning vast quantities of land generations after the fact?!? Not practical, not possible, and unfair to living people of today who had nothing to do with the original takes.



Using today's morals and values to second guess and judge people of a different period or different culture simply doesn't work and isn't valid.



Now before ranting about the U.S. consider:



While the treatment of the indiginous peoples in many situations was awfull by today's standards (the American Indians a perfect example), singling out the U.S. is stupid, uninformed, and inapropriate. The Indian population was being decimated before the U.S. existed. French fishermen spread most of the diseases and crashed the population of the east coast before the Mayflower even landed with the Pilgrims. Same goes with with the populations of the U.S. interior (Luisianna Purchase). In California it was the Spanish, then Mexicans who wiped out the Indians. By the time the U.S. came in, the job was nearly complete. Yes, the U.S. was key in wiping out and dislocating the reminant populations.



Try reading the books "1491" and "Undaunted Courage" on the topic of pre-U.S. Indian depopulation.



Mexico? Living in California, I don't see much or any of the manifestations you write about. I get along quite nicely with my Mexican neibors.

Hello,,I'd like to say all white people get back on the boat and go back to England,,but I'm "white" and not proud of American history either, the conquest of other peoples land is never gonna stop with the "democratic" lies the power trippin pricks lay on us all, are just legal lies, they don't mean anything except let's find some fools to follow me, the whole lot of them are nothing and if they had any sense they'd try to feed and care for this world instead of wanting to spend trillions on some space station ,and colonization of some other planet means they can mess up some place else,,the scientific dreamers need to pull their heads out of their crack pipes and fix the screwed up messes they created with developing plastics and other freaks of science. Don't legalize Pot, make lying to millions on TV legal and call it politics, ok I'm done for now,,,,
