Does military experience improve your life as a civilian?

I am 36 work as a teacher. However, I lack the "presence" that good teachers have and the students know it. I was wondering if military experience could help transform me into a leader. Go to some martial arts classes or something to gain some self-confidence. Think of yourself as a leader and act as a leader and gain their respect.



The self-confidence and leadership qualities are always with you. Some people don't recognize them when you are looking for a job and being a military vet can be a handicap because managers, today, want a list of pedigrees. Most of them don't have the skills to recognize a potentially good employee. College boys don't know what it means to lead, management by leadership is often frowned upon.



But, overall, you are a better person with far more skills because of military training and leadership. However, you have to remember that some of the leadership tactics that you learn as a soldier do not easily translate into the classroom. They will and if you listen it just might work. It takes years to become an effective teacher. The other way to get presence is to coach. See if you can become an assistant athletic coach and observe what the head coach does. Many coaches are not bad in the classroom, especially with disruptive students. You need to stand up and make an effort to find better techniques to make you a better teacher. You need to communicate and find out what you can do to improve your teaching technique. The world needs teachers and if you went this far just to quit maybe you just need a chance.
