Movies about American History?

Hi, I have to work on a school project where we have to watch a movie, write a paper on the movie, write a paper about the real event, and then write a paper comparing and contrasting the two. I am in 8th grade and have considered movies like "Glory", "Apollo 13", and "A League of their own". I don't want anything incredibly boring, but I don't want anything too nonfactual. It needs to be about sometime in American History, and I'm not allowed to do "Pearl Harbor" or "Titanic". I'd go with Apollo 13, as it was one of the most factually accurate filmic tellings of a true story. If you read Jim Lovell's book about Apollo 13 ( Which he commanded ), that will help fill in some of the details that get left out of movies.

If you have available the 2 disc DVD of Apollo 13, theres a commentary track by Jim and his wife, Marilyn. Excellent stuff.

As a space history buff, I'd leave aside The Right Stuff, especially the movie, because its a great story, but theres an awful lot of fiction mixed in both what Tom Wolfe wrote, and what got into the movie, as well.

Its wonderful that you're not allowed to use those two films; they STUNK. They were very non historical ( The list of mistakes in both is huge, especially PH ), and both had insipid 1990s bad relationship storylines glued to real events of not-at-all-the-1990s. If you want a serious movie about Pearl Harbor, go with Tora, Tora, Tora. The book and film of Walter Lord's A Night To Remember is excellent about the Titanic story. The book Her Name Titanic by Charles Pellegrino is also excellent.Movies about American History?Try 'The Buccaneer' 1958 with Charlton Heston as General Andrew Jackson defending New Orleans in 1815 from the British. The title refers to privateer Jean Lafitte who aided Jackson. He was played by Yul Brynner who was Pharoah to Heston's Moses in the Ten Commandments. Directed by actor Anthony Quinn.

Du Berry was a Lady [hilarious] Glory Bound, Hotel Rwanda [EXCELLENT!] Queen Elizabeth, and there are just so many more!! I love historical fiction movies. I would most highly suggest Hotel Rwanda. Loved it!! %26lt;3
